Project Background
14 St John’s Lane has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment and extension, transforming it into a contemporary, mixed-use workspace designed to support modern ways of working. The project introduced a new fifth floor, upgraded façades, and high-quality internal environments, setting a new benchmark for flexible office space in Clerkenwell.
Positioned at the heart of London’s cultural and professional hub, the reimagined building will offer bright, dual-aspect floorplates, premium amenities, and a strong connection to the surrounding streetscape, delivering a professional yet dynamic flex-space community for its future occupiers.
Project Brief
Curo Construction Ltd appointed Next Generation Rooflights to design, supply, and install a bespoke electrically operated three-wall box rooflight at 14 St John’s Lane, providing both daylight enhancement and safe access onto the new roof area.
Measuring 2,600mm wide by 3,600mm span and rising to 1,300mm high, the rooflight was engineered as a precision solution tailored to the building’s new roof configuration. The structure was finished externally in a custom PPC RAL 7021 (Black Grey), carefully selected to complement the contemporary architectural palette of the refurbishment.
High performance glazing and solar control
The rooflight incorporates a high-performance glazing specification, combining an 8 mm heat-soaked toughened solar control outer pane with a 14 mm argon-filled cavity and black warm-edge spacer, alongside a 13.5 mm heat-strengthened SGP laminated inner pane. This configuration delivers excellent light transmission while maintaining thermal performance, durability, and safety.
Fully integrated
Fully integrated into the building management system, the rooflight features electric operation with battery backup, an integrated rain sensor, and touch access keypads both internally and externally, ensuring reliable operation and controlled access under all conditions.
Working closely with the wider project team, including architect Squire & Partners LLP, our contribution supports the building’s wider sustainability ambitions, which include BREEAM Excellent, EPC A, WiredScore Gold, and the integration of solar technologies. As with all our systems, the rooflight reflects our commitment to industry-leading, carbon-neutral design, suitable for both commercial and residential applications.
Future focused workspace
Completed December 2025, 14 St John’s Lane now stands as a refined, future focused workspace — combining heritage context, modern engineering, and high-specification design in the heart of Clerkenwell.
